Act fast, because this weeks meal uses items on sale through Vons "This Weekend Only" Sale. The recipe is similar to "breakfast for dinner" however, this is a dinner casserole.
It utilizes bulk breakfast sausage (Jimmy Dean, $1.99) and my cost includes serving it with asparagus ($.97/lb.). I am assuming that you have the remainder of the ingredients in your pantry or are able to buy them at a reasonable price (generic or otherwise on sale) and have included the cost of those items.
I have not tried the recipe, but found it on a reputable website from which I have used many recipes in the past. Please let me know if you try the recipe! Serve the casserole with steamed asparagus. Makes 6 servings.

Family Recipe of the Week - $4 for dinner for 4
For those of you that know me well, you know that I enjoy cooking! I have many styles when it comes to this craft. Sometimes I like to go gourmet, sometimes it's ethnic, sometimes it's easy, sometimes it's kid friendly. But, the meals that give me the most satisfaction are the ones that are inexpensive, easy, enjoyable and kid friendly. So I am going to try to post a recipe every week that fits those requirements.
I will be creating these meals based on what is available on sale in one of our local grocery stores. If you live in the Temecula area, this will work in your favor. If you live elsewhere, I hope you will be inspired anyway!
I am already behind this week as most of the grocery store sale prices are valid only through 02/23. Hopefully, I will have another one for you on Wednesday which will give you a little more time to shop. All of the items for this weeks recipe are found at Vons. So without any more ranting, here is the Family Recipe of the Week:
Grilled London Broil
1 lb. Rancher's Reserve Top Round London Broil

Kraft Macaroni and Cheese Shapes

Ingredients to make Macaroni and Cheese
Teriyaki Sauce
Marinate London Broil in Teriyaki Sauce 4-24 hours. Grill to desired doneness. Slice into thin slices. Serve with prepared macaroni and cheese and steamed broccoli.
The teriyaki sauce does not flavor the meat a great deal but does aid in tenderizing this very inexpensive cut of meat. You may have to buy several pounds of this meat at the $1.77/lb. price. If you make extra meat, slice leftovers and simmer the following evening in beef broth. Place drained meat in toasted hoagie rolls and serve with broth on the side for a quick and easy French Dip!

Today was a good day!
Today I had to make a trip up to Ontario airport to pick up my friend Barb who is staying with me for a week. On the way back, I couldn't resist stopping at the Lake Elsinore Outlet Mall.
As I walked into the Nike Outlet, I said, "I always go into this store but I never buy anything because it is still overpriced!" Much to my surprise, I found a pair of Nike + running shoes that work with my Nike + ipod. I usually pay at least $59 for these when I scour the sales for the best deal but these were $39.99. Yay, woohoo, I was syked!
Then I went to Old Gravy (Navy) I found a cute casual skirt that falls just above the knee (not too short and not too long) that I can wear with my Birkenstocks (see my post on Problems with my Achilles Tendon). I bought one in green and one in brown.......they were $4.97 each.
So I left the Outlet Mall feeling satisfied and a little thrilled. I got $135 worth of merchandise, a pair of running shoes and 2 skirts for $50 plus tax. Woop woop, bargain hunt successful!

Disney Store Bargains
How can you not love the Disney Store? My kids love going there more than they love the play area at the mall. Although some of their full priced items seem a little over priced, you can't beat their sales on certain items. For example, today I purchased three kids t-shirts (Tinkerbell, Cinderella and Aristocats) for birthday parties that I know my daughter will be attending in the future. They were 3 for $20. They are made of very soft pre-shrunk cotton and feature disney characters with glittery accents. I then went over to Claire's and purchased some accessories to go with them. I ended up with 3 girls birthday presents for under $30......and what's even better? I crossed three more tasks off my list without spending too much money!

Problems with my Achilles Tendon
Well after months of struggling with problems in my achilles tendon, I finally decided to got to a Sports Medicine Specialist. He informed me that I needed special inserts in my shoes and told me to wear them for 2 weeks and then come back to follow up.
I purchase aforementioned inserts and they helped tremendously. But when I was home, I noticed that I began to have problems as soon as I removed my shoes. Thinking about the shape of the insole, I went to the closet and pulled out my Birkenstocks to wear around the house. It didn't take me long to realize that my Birkenstocks were even better than the insoles. I am now convinced that I need to wear Birkenstocks MOST of the time, especially around the house.
And so began my journey to find the BEST Birkenstocks at the cheapest price.........several days later, I placed an order and was pleasantly suprised by the "cuteness" of the shoes I selected! I was able to purchase 2 pairs of Birkenstocks from Amazon.com for $84.75 including shipping!
